Jeremy Sherr, Fellow of the Society of Homeopaths, wants to cure AIDS and Malaria with homeopathy

Posted by gimpy on November 1, 2007

Jeremy Sherr is a Fellow of the Society of Homeopaths (FSHom) (SoH), founder and principal of the renowned Dynamis School and a software entrepreneur. He is the author of several respected homeopathic tomes and acquired legendary status in the homeopathic community with his provings of Hydrogen, Plutonium and Chocolate amongst others. His admirers include Louis Klein, John Melnychuk and the SoH who have accorded him the honour of being a Fellow as well as promoting his seminars. He also is in possession of a Ph.D. from Medicina Alternativa, founded by Lord Pandit Raja Guru Maha-Atma Who qualified Chinese Master Acupuncturist Professor Doctor Sir Holy Tibetan Lama Shaman Healer Anton Jayasuriya, a member of the North American Society of Homeopaths (NASH) and an honorary professor of Yunan Medical College, Kunming, China. From his own website:

Jeremy is acknowledged by the homœopathic community as a brilliant and creative thinker who is well grounded in the philosophy and writings of Hahnemann.

Jeremy is an international homeopath maintaining busy practices in Malvern, New York and Tel Aviv as well as running the Dynamis Certificate in homeopathy (~£1700 for five meetings). In fact he is so important he even has his own Wikipedia entry.

Jeremy also believes that homeopathy can be used to treat or cure AIDS and malaria and encourages such treatments.

Jeremy has very kindly uploaded almost every article he has written and interview he has given on his website. When not prescribing salmon remedies for annoying neighbours with leaky taps, Jeremy likes to tackle the important issues of the day such as September 11th, 2001:

When the itch of division is ignored or suppressed, it grows into a multi headed monster that can blow the world apart. When the valve of September the 11th blew, we were shown an extreme version of the pathology we live in, as well as having a glimpse of what cure could bring. For a short time our alienation and isolation fused into love, unity and respect. The relief that was achieved violently and temporarily can be achieved gently and permanently. Maybe it is beyond our powers to prescribe a homeopathic remedy for the whole world at once. However, if we can prescribe for one patient unto the innermost degree, resting on an understanding of the larger totality, we may touch the roots of our collective itch. If we can heal the planet fully, each individual will be cured. If we can heal any one individual completely, based on a broader understanding of pathology, we may be able to cure the world.

and the 50th aniversary of the nuclear attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki:

The planet Pluto was discovered in 1930. In 1932, as Hitler rose to power the first neutron was identified. The Syphilitic Miasm had now become full to the brim and was ready to explode. Viruses were first crystallised in 1935. Late in 1938, just as the war was about to begin, nuclear fission was achieved - a Uranium atom was split. Isotopes of plutonium were first prepared at the University of California, Berkeley, in 1941. In 1942, with the war going full blast, the first nuclear chain reaction was produced. On the 6th of August, 1945, Hiroshima was demolished by an Atomic Bomb. One hundred and thirty thousand people were reported killed, injured, or missing. Three days later a Plutonium Bomb flattened Nagasaki. The world had passed through the barrier of the 6th Syphilitic period and into the 7th radioactive and cancerous era.

However, Jeremy doesn’t confine himself to his unique analysis of history and current affairs he also takes an active interest in much more serious issues such as healthcare in the developing world. On AIDS and malaria Jeremy has this to say:

I can show fantastic AIDS cases on video, where you clearly see people getting better and coming off their drugs

Jeremy would like to carry out a trial on homeopathy for AIDS patients:

it would involve treating three to five hundred AIDS patients over a couple of years. The aim is twofold; one, to treat individually and show the efficacy of homoeopathy for these patients and two, to look for a genus epidemicus for AIDS, providing it is an epidemic. Epidemics have certain characteristics and AIDS is one foot in and one foot out. I do not want to hear what this or that homoeopath gave an AIDS patient; I just want to collect the symptoms for myself, as Hahnemann said we should do with epidemics, and see.

Now doing experiments on terminally ill patients is an area fraught with ethical difficulties and one would hope that Jeremy would take this seriously. On the subject of the ethics of such a trial Jeremy says this:

You have to find willing partners and get a protocol through an ethics committee, and you need to talk their language. I hope it will work but if not, I will just go and do it on a small scale myself - I am determined to do that.

Nice attitude. If you don’t let me do what I want I will go ahead and do it anyway.

Jeremy also believes that homoepathy can cure malaria:

I went to Tanzania as I have a friend there, Sigsbert Rwegasira; a homoeopath and a lovely guy. He also has a hundred percent success in treating malaria, which is still the biggest killer the world has ever known. The allopaths are poisoning people with pharmaceuticals such as Lariam, which is causing absolute devastation. He has treated five thousand AIDS patients. I went for a week and treated twenty AIDS cases and collected all the symptoms, and we are getting really good results.

Now it is tempting to dismiss these statements as the inconsequential musings of a harmless crank. Unfortunately not only do Jeremy and his friend, Sigsbert Rwegasira, believe in this but they act on it too. In August of this year Jeremy raised thousands of dollars for a clinic in Tanzania that will treat malaria using homeopathy. Not only that, Sigsbert Rwegasira, is actually using and promoting a homeopathic AIDS drug on his patients in Dar es Salaam.

People are quick to dismiss homeopathy as a harmless pursuit practiced by kindly people in market towns for the hypochondriac middle classes of Britain. Organisations representing homeopaths, such as the SoH, make claims of gentle healing and lobby for the inclusion of homeopathy on the NHS. Homeopathy is not gentle, it does not heal. It promotes an insidious ignorance that kills. Senior homeopaths promote bizarre theories and support quack doctors in the developing world who will cause the premature death of their patients by treating diseases such as AIDS and malaria with nothing more than water. Rather than condemn the individuals who do this, the SoH advertises their courses, invites them to speak at seminars and awards them honorary titles. The SoH told the House of Lords that:

The Society of Homeopaths noted that its members were “subject to a rigorous Code of Ethics” and that it was also “a key player in the Council of Organisations Registering Homeopaths … working to establish a single register for the profession” which would allow patients and healthcare workers “to be sure of the professional standards, competency and accountability of the homeopaths they employ

This is manifestly untrue. The regulation of homeopathy is a shambles and this shambles is costing lives in Africa. The support for homeopathy in the House of Commons is giving respectability to a deluded profession, this is costing lives in Africa.

We will continue to have blood on our hands unless we challenge the respectability of homeopathy. It is dangerous. It kills.

Good one, Gimpy. You’re in the wrong job!

You couldn’t make it up. Good work Gimpy.

I think what we are showing is that there are two faces to homeopaths. The one they show to each other and the other to the outside world. Let’s look at the recent SoH press statement…

The Society of Homeopaths, Europe’s largest body of professional homeopaths, would like to point out that its symposium on HIV/AIDS is just that – a discussion forum for the exploration and critical appraisal of the use of homeopathy.

Putting aside the offensive overtones of Mr Cohen’s piece, it should be noted that the symposium will be looking at complementary methods and approaches used by experienced homeopaths in helping with the symptoms of HIV/AIDS.

First, they say it as “exploration and critical appraisal of the use of homeopathy”. But, there is no-one speaking but extreme advocates for curing AIDS with magic water - and, lets not forget, mp3 files. There are no apparent dissenting or questioning voices speaking at their symposium. Secondly, the idea that they are trying to use ‘complementary methods’ just asks what are they trying to complement - because it is not real medicine. The comments above reflect the every day narrative of the homeopath - “The allopaths are poisoning people with pharmaceuticals such as Lariam, which is causing absolute devastation.” These are the sort of statements that get you elected to be a Fellow. Homeopaths see themselves as a superior alternative to real medicine - not as complementary and respectful of real medicine. A real complementary market-town homeopath, who made sure she just dealt with bumps and bruises, and deferred to the local GPs on all matters more serious than a slight sniffle, would never make Fellow and would just be a plain ‘Member’ all their working homeopathic lives.

I am beginning to think they have a deliberate policy of projecting this spin to the outside world. It is meant to appease the MPs and regulatory authorities, sound soft and gentle to the public, whilst winking at their own members.

So Jeremy the homeopath is acknowledged by the homoepathic community as a “creative thinker”. I think all homeopaths must be “creative thinkers”.

  5. David Colquhoun Says:

If it wasn’t all so tragic, it would be amusing that these extremists are killing homeopathy with little outside assistance.

The Faculty of Homeopathy is clearly wriggling uncomfortably at the antics of these nutters

  6. gimpy Says:

Thanks for that David. I should point out that, despite the SoH’s assurances of a strict code of conduct, when I complained to them about Mr Sherr they told me that his FSHom was honorary so he wasn’t bound by their code of conduct and there was nothing they could do.

  7. draust Says:

Fine digging, Gimpy. As you say, the sheer looniness of these people takes the breath away.

Hopefully any time one of the SoH apologists appears (in “speak careful” mode) on a Radio show or similar, someone will phone in and quote one of the statements of these “luminaries” back at them verbatim.

Otherwise, one can only hope they take nice trekking holidays in the Thai jungle.

  8. draust Says:

PS My local homeopathic college has an eminent FSHom, David Mundy, listed among the teachers. He is also, apparently an expert on symbolism and alchemy. Here is an interview with him in a homeopathy publication, which provides another insight into the homeopathic mind.

    Beware of dropping jaw.

  9. HDS Says:

Homeopathy will never die because of these vindictive statements!! In fact the opposite, people know what is good for them, they are getting better using homeopathy and that is what matters to the public at large. The more you talk about homeopathy, the more people will ask ‘what is homeopathy’? and more it is that the person sitting next to them will say: ‘ah, I used it, and it worked for me’. So, although I understand that, as paid members of the pharmaceutical company, you have a job to do, be certain that it a useless job, as well as ensuring that you will eventually receive back what you give out, it is a certain law of the Universe, as certain as Homeopathy is. The only difference is that Homeopathy does GOOD, you are just wallowing in dirty mud, but you are forgiven, for you you know not what you are talking about. Meanwhile, Homeopaths will just continue doing what they do best - treat people and help them get rid of their health ailments. Up until say 5 or 10 years ago, no-one was interested in dafamating Homeopathy - why not? Only now have you become interested in Homeopathy!!! Could it be that this is occurring at the same time as the drug companies are losing money because there is less money available for research, and so many people prefer to use more natural alternatives? Who do you think you are kidding? People KNOW what is best for them. You are waisting your time, but certainly making a lot of money out of it. Anyway, as they say there is no such thing as bad publicity, so carry on, you are actually doing Homeopathy a big favour, thanks.

  10. gimpy Says:

HDS, I assure you I am neither spiteful or vindictive in real life nor in my online persona. Please could you explain which of my statements are vindictive?
I really hope that people will ask ‘what is homeopathy?’, as too many people do not realise how ludicrous it really is as a concept.
Could you also explain why, if homeoapthy is cheap and effective, drugs companies haven’t got involved in making and selling remedies? Could you also tell me how I am making money? I would love to know. I don’t get paid for this blog and I don’t work for a drug company.

  11. nash Says:

HDS - I am not a paid member of “the pharmaceutical company”

Are you paid by the SoH?

  12. HDS Says:

No, I am not paid by the SoH either, I earn my living quite decently and honestly.
I am sure that you are aware that a well known Drug Company has recently bought the majority shareholdings of the Boiron Laboratoires Homeopatique in France. Do you know the reason why they would like to do that? It has been kept very quiet!!!! I wonder why?
And yes, let more and more people ask what Homeopathy is - it is wonderful. The more we know as the general public, the more we will be able to make informed decisions, no problems there.

  13. gimpy Says:

HDS, really? Do you have any proof that a drug company bought shares in Boiron? I would be grateful for a link if you can provide one. I did look at some financial reports on the company and while there are a number of shares owned by unidentified holders these individually consist of no more than 1%. Certainly the majority share belongs to the current owner, a Mr Boiron.

  14. Eleanor Says:

oooh, where’s the Evil Pharma Drug money that gets bandied about? when can I expect my cheque?

But as you point out, gently mocking the middle class obsession with homeopathy makes it seem a benign and amusing topic, rather a murderously distastful one.

  15. Homeopaths' Newsletter shows panic Says:

[...] claims are very mild compared the those of people like Jeremy Sherr. Read all about him at gimpy’s blog. Sherr is (in)famous for his “provings” of hydrogen, plutonium and chocolate, and for [...]

  16. typo Says:

I can well understand BigPharma buying shares in a company manufacturing homeopathic remedies. The ingredient costs for many pharmaceuticals are quite high.

Didn’t Coca Cola get into trouble for selling tap water in fancy bottles in the UK?

  17. christopher beaver Says:

i have to say that jeremy sherr has not only amazingly helped me but many people i know deal with severe pathologies that are now no longer present with the use of homeopathy.
you may say what you wish but this is a man with a dedicated heart and a wonderfully brillant personality. say what you will but try not to knowck someone unless you know them and there work well.

  18. gimpy Says:

Christopher, he may have a dedicated heart and his personality may shine like a thousand suns but he is scientifically illiterate and is promoting extremely unethical trials involving absurd preparations. He can also do this without fear of sanction from the organisation that awarded him his FSHom as they have informed me that FSHom’s are not bound by a code of conduct (ineffectual though it is) like RSHom’s.

  19. christopher beaver Says:

ok so what is your connection to this man and why is it that you seem to want to attack this person. Do you actually know him, have you had experiences with him. See i have, and to say that he is scientifcally illiterate and promoting unethical trials unless you know him is a bit ridiculous.
I have had expereinces with him, and many of people i know have as well. I have seen him administer remedies to people i know and love with severe pathologies and watch them change, i have witnessed people i know take his remedies and get off of severe medications. One person even became well enough to live on their own out of a mental institution.
so now what have you seen and what have you personally witnessed.not what are you speculating , not what do is your opinion without personal expereince but what have you actually witnessed.

  20. Nash Says:

    re 19

I never met Pol Pot, so I can’t criticize him?

Have you met Gimpy? If not, why are you criticizing him?

  21. christopher beaver Says:

actually i am not criticizing i am asking a question. i think it is a good and simple direct question.

  22. gimpy Says:

Christopher Beaver, I am attacking Jeremy Sherr because he is dangerously deluded in believing that homeopathy can treat AIDS and malaria, he is grossly irresponsible in his advocation of unethical experiments on terminally ill patients and he is a notable homeopath who seems to carry weight in the community.

The trouble with personal experiences is that they are subject to all manner of biases and subjective interpretations. I strongly urge you to read this excellent article examining the problems with anecdotes and how they may be used in evidence based medicine.

  23. christopher beaver Says:

yes he is a homeopath who has a great weight because he actually does HELP PEOPLE. how is it that you can not accept that he administers help which actually can change pathology. I can say that i have seen it so why dont you look up people who claim homepathy has works for them and has helped them…. i as well have been helped with serious problems which have gone through pathological changes. PATHOLOGICAL. not oh i feel better and have more energy but pathological changes. I am one of those people, i actually know many others.

  24. gimpy Says:

Christopher Beaver did you read that essay I linked to?

  25. John R Says:

I’ve always thought that people who write in capital letters are PATHOLOGICAL.

  26. christopher beaver Says:

    yes actually i did.
you still did not actually weigh in on the question
