Peter Chappell – claims to cure bird flu by MP3 quackery, subjects us to early death instead

Posted by gimpy on December 22, 2007

Every so often there is a global influenza pandemic capable of killing tens of millions. The last such severe influenza epidemic was the 1918 Spanish Flu that is thought to have killed 40-100 million individuals and caused severe illness in many more. Experts think there is some risk of avian influenza mutating sufficiently to infect humans and cause a global pandemic. The strain of avian influenza thought most likely to do this is H5N1, a strain particularly nasty in birds and but that has killed only 209 people to date. H5N1 does not seem to transfer directly between people, rather the infected individuals, almost exclusively bird farmers, received massive doses of the virus from their bird stocks. It is thought that for H5N1 to become a immediate threat to human health it will have to mutate and combine with a human influenza virus. Only then will it become properly transmissible between humans and a grave danger to human populations. This scenario might seem unlikely but previous human influenza pandemics have been caused by viruses incorporating fragments of avian viruses or even, in the case of Spanish flu, being almost wholly derived from avian viruses. The WHO, world leaders and local government clearly take the threat posed by avian flu, and in particular H5N1, seriously enough to invest billions in research and stockpiling of Tamiflu, an anti-viral drug. Unfortunately Tamiflu is not particularly effective against the virus but until a epidemic happens it will be very difficult to develop an effective vaccine, a time consuming process, making it the best available treatment. It is perhaps this fear of unpreventable deaths that most worries people about the possibility of avian flu mutating to become human flu. Tamiflu will be reserved for health professionals, important members of government, civil service and the luckless individuals responsible for collecting the bodies as society collapses around them. Luckily some homeopaths claim to have a solution to this.

Peter Chappell is the odd man who claims he can cure AIDS by use of ‘resonance’, a short clip of mildly avant-garde jazz. Mr Chappell has previously been taken to task over his AIDS lunacy and the Society of Homeopaths (SoH) support for his claims by Ben Goldacre’s badscience and the Quackometer. Peter Chappell is also claiming that not only can homeopathic juju juice protect you from bird flu but that his own brand of juju jazz will have a similar effect. Peter Chappell has set up the website, birdfluhealing, to explain the dangers and, in a remarkable act of altruistic generosity, has provided a cure for bird flu free of charge and for download. So lets have a look at his site.

Possible Bird Flu Scenarios

Peter presents three possible scenarios for the bird flu pandemic.
Scenario #1: It never happens.
Fair enough. But Peter doesn’t believe this scenario, nor do most experts.
Scenario #2: It happens in a mild form.
This is where Peter, homeopathy’s answer to Private Frazer, begins to lose it slightly. This is the opening paragraph from Peter’s idea of a mild form of influenza.

It spreads around the world in four days before it is realised it has made the human to human genetic transition as a way of infection (or after), but it’s unstoppable. Even in 1918 it only took ten days to envelope the world. Birds did that. Human birds – airplanes will do it quicker now.

Peter then goes on to describe breakdown in medical care, the collapse of infrastructure, and the crumbling remnants of civilisation gathering round their dwindling food stocks as a new dark age approaches. We’re doomed! And all because of those pesky human birds.

Scenario #3: The Worst Case Scenario

The worst case scenario according the WHO is that it is a much worse bird flu than last time and three quarters of the population die.

The current lethality, 60% with intensive care, continues. With no medical support, it will obviously be a higher death rate. This is a WHO considered possibility as this is one direction the current Bird Flu mutations are actually taking.

It is impossible to imagine such an event and there is no easy way to plan for it. Obviously it will be a BC/AD event and while the human race will survive, it will take generations and a century to recover. Things will never be the same again.

For this you need food as above and lots more besides, all the essentials of life need to be considered: food, coal, wood, water, etc. need consideration to survive months at least and then there will still be a long aftermath.

The only Stephen King novel I have ever read, The Stand, dealt with a similar scenario. If I recall there was something about an evil crow man, like the bird humans, who tried to establish a permanent state of evil. I can’t remember too much, the book was really crap. Obviously Peter Chappell thinks homeopaths will survive the coming apocalypse and will craft a new civilisation from the ruins of the old. A civilisation where homeopathy is the new healthcare, science vanquished and big pharma destroyed. Truly a new dark age.

Treatment of Bird Flu

Luckily Peter knows how to treat bird flu so none of his dire predictions need come true. Peter offers two solutions, one in the form of a download, the other as a pill.

In our opinion this download/pills will be the only specific, exactly targeted immune stimulating healing approach on the planet, except homeopathy, which is very similar but homeopaths will not realistically be able to treat millions in a few days.

Phew. Humanity saved. So what are these downloads?

The regular download for Bird Flu (avian influenza – H5N1) maybe sufficient for normal healthy people with good immune systems and is free: see above.

You listen for about 15 seconds. It is in MP3 format so you can transfer it straight to your MP3 player, CD, etc.

There is a second choice, a personalised download that has a double action because it is personalised to you. It boosts not only your immune system for Bird Flu but also your total immune system. For example it calms the fears you might have about being sick, the urge to carry on working, and softens various immune compromising attitudes. This is not free.

Immunity is really in two parts, the mind, the macro part, the will to live, being peaceful rather than agitated, rushed, driven etc and the micro part, the cells that fight off the bird flu in this case. This personalised version addresses the total immunity.

Ahh quite remarkable I’m sure you will agree. Although I do question Peter Chappells intentions if he intends to profit from the more effective remedy. The makers of Tamiflu donated millions of treatments to developing countries for free. If big pharma is capable of such a altruistic gesture then it is a shame Peter Chappell isn’t.

So how should this remedy be taken?

Listen once daily for a month now as a prophylactic, and for one week every three months thereafter. This is to build up immunity.

Listen to the download hourly once the Bird Flu (avian influenza – H5N1) starts anywhere on Earth transmitted human to human; ignore bird to human outbreaks.

There is evidence that prophylaxis works – see Articles.

immunity can be built up so we recommend this and it has a 90% success rate according to research in epidemic diseases. We think it is definitely worth doing, as it could also lessen the impact of the Bird Flu.

Listen virtually non stop once it happens in the home/office/workplace, and when you have it. It should just nip it in the bud and stop it dead in its tracks.

Listen if you get the bird flu as often as you feel you need to. If listening makes you feel better, keep up a rhythm of listening so that keeps you stay feeling better.

If no effect is noticed, or is noticed on other levels, listen every 15 minutes in the acute phase.

Listen after recovery five times a day for a week for protection and to stop relapses.

If you choose the pills/drops, take pills or drops as often as the listening. You can buy Bird Flu made up in a dropper bottle. To use it bang the bottle on wood five times, do that once daily, and take one drop (more is wasteful) the same rate as recommended for listening. There are about 200 drops in a dropper bottle. You will need a few bottles. Or you can buy pills which you can use to make up dropper bottles, if you know how – see vitalremedies.com.

The music is not the healing (nor the pills or drops), it only carries the healing information to activate specific, targeted self healing to bird flu. The resonance alerts you to when to listen. However poor the quality of the music reproduction, it can still work fine.

This is the most remarkable break through in the history of medicine. Not only can listening to music protect you from possible future pandemics by building up the immune system but its efficacy is not damaged by frequent copying. Truly a miracle cure.

So how does this download work?

Downloads are based upon resonance which is an ancient principle for healing: resonance is a natural law that has always existed. Modern quantum physics confirms this.

Resonance is the healing principle used by wild animals in self-selection of beneficial herbs and minerals that stimulate healing to occur and assist it.

Later, it was adopted by early traditional healers based upon their observation of animals all over the world. It is still used by traditional healers worldwide and in some cases, it has been well developed and refined into a specific healing form like homeopathy.

The use of resonance, therefore, for stimulating self-healing is effectively very old, and the download is really based on a healing law of this universe, just as gravity and others.

In our methodology, our own self-healing (the total spirit/mind/body defence against illness) for a specific illness or disease is boosted by a download containing the healing information; it amplifies the defence response, just as striking middle C sets off other Cs.

The download that mobilises healing is, however, a multidimensional complexity, a whole orchestra playing, not just a single string resonating with another.

The technology for downloads are created by Peter Chappell after thirty years in traditional and homeopathic practice around the world, and a long search for an effective ways to treat epidemic diseases such as AIDS.

Remarkable, quantum resonance.

The terrible flaw in Peter Chappell’s thinking.

Alas, there is a most dreadful error in Peter Chappell’s protective remedy. Not the implausibility of musical healing, the impossibility of homeopathy or the insult to quantum mechanics. No, this disastrous, catastrophic mistake has its root in the properties of previous avian-human influenza outbreaks. These outbreaks, including Spanish flu, resulted in higher levels of lethality in younger fitter populations compared to older less fit populations. This apparently illogical result happens because Spanish flu caused a ‘cytokine storm‘, where the immune system turns on itself. Those individuals with strong immune systems, the young and the fit, suffered most greatly when that strong immune system turned on them. H5N1, the most likely candidate for the next global avian-human flu pandemic, is also thought to kill by triggering a cytokine storm. Peter Chappell’s remedies claim to boost and strengthen natural immunity. This will be a potential death sentence in the face of a pandemic. Those who have been religiously listening to Peter Chappell’s download will potentially have an immune system so strong that they are almost certain to die an early death due to flu. If Peter Chappell’s remedies work as claimed then he could be sacrificing the lives of all those who have listened to him to avian-human influenza. It is for this reason and this reason alone that I have not linked to the actual download. I have listened to it myself and am sick with worry as a result of writing this. This terrible mistake could be a truly monstrous act of medical folly where the arrogance of one man and his failure to understand the facts cause the homeopathic genocide of millions. Let us pray for both ours and Peter’s sake that his remedies don’t work.

PS for youtube fun with Peter then tune in tomorrow.

I for one will be sticking my fingers in my ears lest I catch a snippet of juju jazz on the radio.

Ah. Great post Gimpy. I know people have given this guy the benefit of the doubt (that he really believes what he is saying, not the belief that it actually works), but I’m afraid I can’t do that. I think it’s just all one big con. He will get caught one day with this stuff, although unfortunately it will be for tax evasion or something rather than criminal narcissism, fraud, and genocide.

Peter Chappell was at one time a reasonably respected practitioner of homeopathy. Some of his earlier books were endorsed by prominent members of the Faculty of Homeopaths. It seems that he has gone slightly gaga as he gets older. Its probably the equivalent of formally respectable scientists such as Lionel Milgrom or Rustum Roy going a bit odd in their dotage and buying into the memory of water/homeopathy woowoo. However, while the scientific establishment may regard these individuals with a mixture of pity and embarrassment, much like the time great uncle George pissed himself at midnight mass after one too many ales, the homeopathic establishment regards the likes of Chappell as an intellectual giant of the form and does not dismiss his insanity.

I don’t like jazz, so I have one more reason to dislike it.

I’m not going to get into a debate about this.

There was a programme on Channel 4 last year about it. It documented the social breakdown in America. Basically for about 3 months streets were deserted. Places of work were closed. The pandemic went as suddenly as it came. It killed more people than World War 1.
It sacred the crap out of me.

There’s no question a flu pandemic will happen. IIRC from my virology lectures we are overdue for another. Even if the whole high/low virulence cycling thing is not quite correct, as time goes on, there is a statistically higher chance of a genetic shift (reassortment event) occurring and thus a highly contagious, virulent strain emerging. I find the whole flu thing really really interesting. I knew about the cytokine storm thing, that was discovered relatively recently. It also means that the usual feeling of smugness I get from being relatively young and healthy is no protection in this case!

  7. A modest proposal. Chappell’s theory is testable. If he can upgrade immunity for H5N1, the same can be done for any virus. Let him produce a musical remedy for some known and treatable virus. Run a double-blinded trial, using groups who’ve listened to music with or without his prophylactic additions. Expose both. Observe.

  8. Call me cynical if you like, but this is surely just a creative way of getting the Christmas number 1. Personally I prefer Malcolm Middleton’s “We’re All Going To Die”.

Poor Pothecary, an AIDS charity Chappell is associated with is actually carrying out clinical trials on terminally ill AIDS patients using his remedies. Sick bastards.

Gimpy that is a bit confusing. You’d think he’d aim a little lower to start with. Maybe trying to cure a few colds first before moving on to AIDS.

That’s the thing I don’t understand about these people – they see grander claims as progress – FFS, prove the small things first you imbeciles.

  12. ambrielle said

Look on the bright side, the grander and more publicised the claims, the quicker they can be shown not to work. Although it’s not good for the ethics side of things.

They could always play it at the AIDS clinic as they’re doling out AZT – only because JAZZ is cool and hip-hop isn’t. So lets get all the kids in Africa into JAZZ!

Can his device be used to assess existing songs for their health benefits? Oh sorry, of course they won’t, as no musician would have stumbled on a combination of notes even by accident.
