Homeopaths plot to broadcast idiocies on twitter

Posted by gimpy on June 9, 2009

So you belong to a profession that has recently come under some criticism for lacking an understanding of medical ethics and indulging in some frighteningly irresponsible pseudo-medical posturing, you’re concerned about shifting media attitudes, you feel there is a lack of support within society, what do you do?

Do you engage in a period of self reflection, invite serious commentary on and within the profession, encourage responsible behaviour and punish that which brings your community into considerable disrepute?  Or, do you just confirm every allegation of ignorance, irresponsibility and idiocy made about you by your critics?

Dear Leaders of Homeopathy

I’m sure that twatting on Twatter is really going to create a tremendous impact and wave of positive energy. The reality of Twitter is that it’s mostly used by people who know each other to communicate with each other, and it is merely one of the channels that they use to communicate.

Nor do the links tackle any of the issues raised in the Guardian article.

    Hubris prevents self-reflection.

Dana Ullman seems to be pushing the first of those (the “Oxford University Press study”):

I have applied for membership for this clique: http://www.homeopathyworldcommunity.com
[Your membership to Homeopathy World Community is pending approval]

I was totally honest in my application**, although I felt obliged to render one of my responses in Japanese Kana & Kanji, in order to maintain strict honesty, but hide it from casual non-literate scrutiny.
The answer in question was a result to the compulsory enquiry ->[What is your vision for the future of homeopathy?]
Let’s see if these woo-bozo-whack-jobscan decipher it, (or even fathom how to use the copious free translation services available.)
They know nothing about reality, but let’s see if they twig.
Even WITH this blog post admitting that I am an agent of Reality.

    ____________
    Q:[What brought you to homeopathy?]
A:I wish to prevent as many sufferer falling into the wrong hands of medicine
(The poor grammar is deliberate. A lucid response would surely induce suspicion that the applicant was above the maximal I.Q. level to swallow their superstitious bullcrap?)

How the hell can comments be edited for style?
I noticed that I missed a simple bold ending, but am unable to correct it.
Either a Preview feature, or an Edit feature are called for.
Surely WordPress make these tools available to bloggers?

Two can play at that game. Just tweeted “tristanod: Homeopaths plot to broadcast idiocies on twitter: http://tinyurl.com/mzbqps #Homeopathy”

Hope you don’t mind the link

      I tweeted this yesterday:

Homeoquackery is useless woo pseudo science with NO evidence base other than biased personal anecdotes. Keep it out of the NHS. #homeopathy

I would have thought that homeopaths would use radionics to broadcast…

Hah. Note that these guys are leaving out the crucial step between “Sign up for Twitter” and “Copy/paste all these one-liners” – which is “Get lots of followers”.

So Joe signs up for Twitter, and then c/p’s all these bits – who’s going to see them *but Joe*?

    Brilliant :D

Oh no, I bet they will really make a dent in WHO’s policies by twittering homeopathy everywhere.

I expect that Scotts advice will be posted on Minutus (Homeopathic yahoo group that gimpy visits )very soon.

This is quite a worrying development. Of course these tweets will have no immediate impact. But over time as the proportion of tweets supporting homeopathy tends to zero, these tweets will have increasing effect. In about ten years time, when these tweets are fully diluted, we will see an otherwise unexplained increase in support for homeopathy.

Oh my, the drug companies and their “idiots” are all atwitter about homeopaths twittering. How ironic.

Gimpy keep revealing these dark and heavy secrets about the homeopaths it makes them look like what a drug company might do.

But of course, gimpy and followers here, you will claim that Drug companies would never use the media or lobby politicians or even lobby the World Health Organization to protect their emerging markets. Never. Too pure for that. I see you are all too pure for doing that kind of dirty work too- keep science pure, except turn a blind eye when it is used by drug companies.

And to justify the uncomfortable feeling that their might be dirt there, keep pounding the alternative health opposition- at least it looks purer and it is more fun to be or appear like a bully! Twitttering may be a little too gay for bullies though…so you can make fun of twittering too. But twitter on.
